Creating project documentation

Tags:  AI Automatization

Say goodbye to documentation that lags behind the code! At Webtechnika, we have implemented an innovative system combining artificial intelligence (AI) models with modern test automation tools. See how we automated the generation of changelogs and screenshots to save our team’s time and provide clients with an always up-to-date insight into their app's development.

At Webtechnika, we are constantly looking for ways to optimize our processes to deliver the highest quality software to our clients. We perfectly understand how important – and yet how difficult to maintain – reliable and up-to-date project documentation is. That is why we are proud to announce the implementation of an innovative documentation preparation system based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) models and test frameworks technology.

Challenge: Documentation that keeps up with the code

In dynamically changing IT projects, documentation often falls behind the code. Manually updating screenshots and describing every interface modification or change in business logic is extremely time-consuming and prone to human error. We realized that we needed a solution that would fully automate this process, providing us and our clients with complete transparency and insight into the always up-to-date state of the application.

Our Solution: Synergy of AI and a Testing Framework

To meet this challenge, we have integrated two powerful tools into our development cycle (CI/CD):

  • Testing framework – a modern tool for web browser automation. Thanks to it, our system is able to continuously and fully automatically take screenshots of individual views and application functionalities at every stage of its development. By simulating user behavior, the automation bot clicks through the application and gathers visual material in a fraction of a second.

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) – advanced vision and language models (LLM) analyze the captured screenshots and current changes in the source code. Artificial intelligence can not only track modifications in the project but also understand them in a broader context. Based on this, it automatically generates understandable descriptions of new features, updates changelogs, and creates structured technical documentation.

What does this mean for our projects and clients?

Introducing these innovations to our standard workflow brings a number of benefits:

  • Always up-to-date documentation: Say goodbye to outdated instructions and "dead" documentation. Every significant change in the interface or architecture is automatically reflected in the project documents.

  • Real-time change tracking: Thanks to AI visual analysis, we are able to precisely track how the application has evolved over time. Automatically comparing "before" and "after" views makes it easier to quickly catch discrepancies.

  • Greater transparency for business: Clients gain a constant, intuitive overview of the work progress. Combining real screenshots with AI-generated summaries makes User Acceptance Testing (UAT) run much more smoothly.

  • Saving team time: Our developers and analysts can focus 100% on what they do best – programming and solving business problems, leaving the tedious documentation work to intelligent algorithms.

Summary

Implementing test automation and artificial intelligence into the documentation creation process is Webtechnika's next step towards full automation and raising software engineering standards. We believe that this innovative approach will not only optimize our team's work but, above all, bring tangible business benefits to our partners, guaranteeing them the delivery of a consistent, perfectly documented product ready for further, seamless scaling.
